Instructions: Research the resources listed here carefully and in depth by filling out the template linked below and placing them into one of the categories on the main page. Resources can be placed into more than one category. If they offer services that span multiple categories, please place the resource into every category concerned.

We are looking for resources that offer tangible services to the LGBTQ+ community in Gatineau/Ottawa. If there’s a resource that doesn’t offer a tangible service (these are often resources with databases of information, or organizations that primarily work in advocacy and campaigning), do not fill out the template, and do not place them into a category. Simply drop a link to the resource in the page below.

If you come across a directory of resources, please drop a direct link to the directory in the page below.

Once you’re finished researching a resource and it has been added to a category on the main page (or one of the pages above), make sure you remove the resource link from this list, otherwise someone else might start researching it without realizing that it’s already been done.

Here are some notes about things you should pay special attention to while researching:

RAMQ/OHIP coverage: This is particularly important to consider for any health care or mental health resource that is free, because it can mean that it’s covered by provincial health insurance. This is important to know so we don’t, for example, direct a student from Quebec towards a service covered by OHIP for which they would not be eligible.

Mind the area: This resource directory is first and foremost meant to serve the students of the University of Ottawa, and potentially others from the surrounding area. We cannot include resources from all over Quebec and Ontario, or from other places in Canada, because this is a scope that is much too large to be feasible. That being said, you may come across great resources that offer online services accessible to people in this area. You can include them if: you feel it is an important service that isn’t offered very much by local resources, if they are a national, reliable resource that serves many places in Canada, or if they are an Ontario or Quebec provincial resource that offers services directly accessible in this area (online or in-person). Just be mindful: an organization can be doing great work, but if everything they offer are in-person services that aren’t local in the Outaouais region, it isn’t accessible to our target audience.

Special events: This is something to watch out for particularly for community centers and non-profits. They sometimes host special services or special events that you won’t be able to see on their website, because they post information about them on their social media accounts instead. Check social media and make sure to add a link to it to the template if the resource uses it to share important information.

Stay focused: As you research, you will likely come across new resources that you think could be useful. Don’t get sidetracked too much. If you find resources that you think could be interesting, add them to the list on this page and continue with your research. You will be able to come back to it later. Work on one thing at a time.
